GH5188 superalloy is a cobalt-based solid-solution strengthened high-temperature alloy. Its chemical composition mainly consists of elements such as cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), and tungsten (W), with specific content ranges as follows.
‌Main Chemical Components‌
The chemical composition of GH5188 superalloy is designed with cobalt as the matrix, and by adding chromium, nickel, tungsten, etc., to achieve solid solution strengthening and improvement of oxidation resistance. According to the latest authoritative data (released in 2025), its typical composition range is as follows:‌‌
‌Cobalt (Co): 50% or more by weight, serving as the matrix element to provide high-temperature stability and creep resistance.
‌Chromium (Cr): 20.0%-24.0%, forming Cr₂O₃ protective film to enhance oxidation resistance.
‌Nickel (Ni): 20.0%-24.0%, improving high-temperature strength and corrosion resistance.
‌Tungsten (W): 13.0%-16.0%, through solid solution strengthening to enhance high-temperature endurance strength.
‌Carbon (C): 0.05%-0.15%, assisting in strengthening the matrix.
‌Lanthanum (La): 0.03%-0.12%, rare earth element to optimize the oxidation resistance of grain boundaries.

Manganese (Mn) ≤ 1.25%, Silicon (Si) 0.2%-0.5%.

Silver (Ag) ≤ 0.001%, Lead (Pb) ≤ 0.001%.

Cobalt-based Advantage: Compared to nickel-based alloys, the cobalt matrix has better thermal fatigue resistance and dimensional stability below 1100℃.‌‌
Tungsten Strengthening: High tungsten content (13%-16%) significantly enhances high-temperature creep resistance, suitable for hot-end components of aircraft engines.‌‌
Rare Earth Optimization: The addition of lanthanum is a significant feature of GH5188, which can reduce the oxide rate at grain boundaries and extend service life.
